Dust mites get special treatment
After we've cleaned the dust and allergens from your mattresses, carpets, rugs, sofas, upholstery and curtains we can apply a dust mite prevention treatment. It's extremely effective at combating dust mites. In fact, it’s clinically proven by Cambridge’s Medical Entomology Centre to significantly reduce the dust mite population and keep it low over time.
It works in a similar way to anti-allergy mattress and pillow protector covers. Here’s how…
After cleaning, we spray the surface of your mattress, carpets and fabrics with Actigard +Allergyshield. This forms an invisible shield around each fibre and stops our shed flakes of skin (their food) from reaching deep within the pile and fabric. Any dust mites lucky to have survived our deep clean will simply starve and die, so the dust mite population stays low.
The shield also acts as a barrier stopping any allergen particles working their way up through the fibres and fabric and escaping into the air.
It's a thorough sanitiser too, so it kills fungal moulds and bacteria as well as wiping out their unpleasant smell.
Fight stains between cleans
The +Allergyshield treatment also includes stain
protection for your carpets, rugs, upholstered fabrics and curtains. So
you can have confidence that they’ll look great in between cleans too.
How to get a healthy home
We can deep clean your carpets, rugs, mattresses, sofas, upholstered furniture and curtains to alleviate symptoms from dust mite, pet dander and pollen allergens, and our +Allergyshield stain protection treatment can safeguard the health of dust mite allergy sufferers between cleans.
Here's further explanation how it works.
Carpet and rugs
Your carpets and rugs perform like an air filter in your home. When clean they trap dust and allergen particles that fall onto them, holding them there till you vacuum them away. Over the months they inevitably gather more dirt and grime, making it harder for them to hang on to the harmful particles. As you move about, the allergens easily lift up into the air you breathe.
Hello sneezing and wheezing.
But with regular professional cleaning your carpets and rugs can continue to perform this beneficial air filtering. The deep clean removes dust, pet dander, dust mites and the tiniest of allergens. The choking dirt and grime is removed so your carpets can filter the air again. Committing to the recommended 12 to 18 months for your next deep clean means we can obliterate new dust mites and allergens so they never get beyond your control.
The result is cleaner more healthy air for you and your family.
Some medical professionals often advise removing carpets as a way to reduce exposure to dust mites and their allergens. But you can keep your carpets and protect those allergic to dust mite allergens with our +Allergyshield treatment. It's proven to keep the dust mite population low between cleans, so there's significantly reduced dust mite allergens in your home. It protects against stains and reduces
wear too, so it gives you all-round superb peace of mind.
Dust mites love a cosy bed, especially when we're in it. We feed them our shed skin, we give them moisture from our sweat and breath, we keep them nice and toasty with our body heat. The perfect play and breeding ground.
And they repay us with poop. A dust mite can poop up to 20 times in one day, and it’s in those tiny, slimey parcels that the allergen is found. It dries and breaks up, then as we move in our beds we disturb it into the air, suck it into our lungs and hey presto! We wake with a stuffy nose, fuzzy head and feel robbed of a decent night’s sleep.
Studies have shown that attempts to vacuum away mites is more likely to dislodge their allergens into the air. But a professional clean will reach the deep-down mites, kill them, extract them and all their poop. Of course it will also clean away stains from sweat, dribble and other bodily fluids. A more hygienic and healthy feeling all round.
We can also clean bed bases and fabric bed heads.
We recommend +Allergyshield treatment on your mattresses because it is seriously effective at helping dust mite allergy sufferers.
Sofas, upholstery and curtains
It’s likely your family and pets spend much quality time on the sofa. And it should be a place to kick back and relax. But your sofa, whilst not the Hilton of dust mite hang-outs, is still a pretty sweet spot. The dust mites bury into the sofa fabric. They're difficult to vacuum out from flattened, soiled and oily spots.
If your dog or cat snoozes there too, there’s likely to be concentrated pet dander and allergens on the surface and embedded in the fabric. Your movements will dislodge the allergens into the air and eventually to your lungs.
Regular professional cleaning will help.
Our eco-friendly deep-clean extracts the pet dander, dust mites and allergens from every nook and cranny, pocket and fold. For extra peace of mind we can clean other upholstered fabrics and curtains too.
We recommend +Allergyshield treatment for your sofa because the undetectable, protective +Allergyshield layer over the fabric means:
- it's easy to vacuum away dust, pet dander and other allergens
- it's proven to be effective at controlling dust mites
- it protects against spills so you have fewer stains and less soiling
Totally excellent in every way.

- It's an allergen in dust mite poop (called DerP1) that causes allergic reactions. The poop is very dry, and it flakes into tiny particles which lift from the fibres and fabrics in our home into the air we breathe.
- It’s not cat and dog hair you’re allergic to. It’s a protein allergen from their sweat and saliva, which is in pet dander. When it dries the lightweight allergens lift into the air and can stay there for a very long time.
- Asthma is a common allergy resulting from dust mite and pet dander allergens.
- 85% of asthmatic children have an allergic reaction to dust mite allergens.
- Allergen particles eventually fall onto the surface of carpets, sofas, curtains, rugs, chairs and other upholstery ready for us to disturb, lift into the air and be breathed in again.
- Common allergy symptoms include itchiness; blotchy skin; sneezing; inflamed or infected eczema skin; watering red eyes; puffy eyes; a runny nose; wheezing and asthma.
- The regular removal of allergen particles from carpets, upholstery, mattresses and bedding can help manage symptoms in allergy sufferers.
- Vacuuming carpets can help to keep allergen levels manageable but, in the case of the dust mite, it ‘s not effective at removing them.
